eyesEyebombing is the act of setting googly eyes on inanimate things in the public space.  It brings a bit of sunshing to people passing by.  To celebrate Teen Tech Week, we’re having an Eyebombing contest.  Click on the EYEBOMBING page link above to see the rules and other entries submitted.

Teen Tech Club – Saturdays @ 11:30 amP
Use our new Google Chromebooks to edit photos, play games against each other, make movie shorts, and more.  The possibilities are endless.  Attendees must have their SDCL card with internet permission sticker with them to participate.

soapSOAP MAKING- Thursday, May 9th @ 4:00 p.m.
Make glycerin soaps.  There will be different colors and shape molds you can use.  This makes for a great Mother’s Day gift, or a treat for yourself.

BOOK CLUB- Thursday, May 16th @ 4:00 p.m.skellig
We’re reading Skellig by Almond.  Unhappy about his baby sister’s illness and the chaos of moving into a dilapidated old house, Michael retreats to the garage and finds a mysterious stranger who is something like a bird and something like an angel.  Pick up a copy at the reference desk.

TEEN ADVISORY COUNCIL- Thursday, May 23rd@ 4:00 p.m.
Have a say in what events we have for teens at the library. Finalize theTeen Summer Reading Club events, flyers, choose what book, music, and movies we buy for teens,  decorate the teen room, and more. Attendance can count as community service if needed.

CHESS CLUB – Wednesdays, 3:00-5:00 p.m.
Every week we have chess games going for all ages and skill levels.

KNITTING CLUB – Wednesdays @ 6:00 p.m.
Bring your knitting supplies, have a seat and hang out with other knitters or crocheters. This club is open to all ages and all levels of experience. (And yes, guys knit too.)

Friday, December 7th, 6:00-10:00 p.m.
In celebration of the release of the movie The Hobbit we’re having a teen after-hours party. Events include an archery demonstration, archery competition, costume contest, scavenger hunt, elvish and Hobbit runes, dinner and more. (You do not need to have read the book to enjoy the party!) Registration and parental permission slip is required.

SUMMER READING GRAND FINALE-Thur., Aug. 2nd
For our grand finale of the Teen Summer Reading Club we had an Olympic competition and did our grand prize raffle.

TEEN AUTHORS JOHN GREEN & DAVID LEVITHAN VISITED LA MESA
John Green and David Levithan, multi-award winning authors visited the library on April 23rd for an after-hours event. They read excerpts from their new book, Will Grayson, Will Grayson, answered questions, made everyone laugh, and autographed books. There were over 140 people who attended!
